金房派は室町時代の大永（1521年～1527年）頃に始まると言われ、大和五派よりはかなり遅く栄え、当時隆盛をきわめた備前伝と美濃伝の影響を受けて大和物の中では大和伝の他に備前伝や美濃伝の要素も見出す事の出来る特異な一派です。
この派は刀以外に槍を手掛け、宝蔵院に近い関係からか多くの十文字槍を残している。
