固山宗俊は奥州白川に住し固山宗次の門人として活躍した刀工です。また、宗次とは同族でもありました。
明治の廃刀令によって刀剣の制作を断念せざるを得なくなったことは誠に惜しまれます。明治21年、53歳で亡くなりましたので現存作は少なく、一振りづつが貴重な遺作となります。
本作は、重ねが厚く手にして重量を感じるゴリッとした一振です。
幕末の動乱期にいざ活躍せんとする当時の侍達の高い意気込みを感じさせられます。
刀身のバランスよく手持ち感がよい。
