This is a brilliant and gorgeous “Handachi-style”sword made by the second-generation Igamino Kinmichi. Handachi-style”swords were one of the quite popular Japanese swords worn by samurai from the late Muromachi period to the early Edo period.
The sharply extended blade was created by hammering during the forging process to make it perfectly smooth. The steel surface pattern is also beautifully fine and strong. The sword is long but light and well-balanced in hand.
The complete version of an array of sword fittings and scabbard are lacquered with Arima family emblem in gold. The unique pattern of “Warikogai” and the small blade which is called “kozuka” indicate that the sword has an ancient and honorable origins.
The reddish-blown color handle and sharkskin in red lacquer highlight the sophistication and gracefulness of the sword. This is exactly what people would like to desplay at home as an fine art.
