「長船勝光」は、備前長船の刀工。室町時代後期以降の備前物は、「末備前」と呼ばれます。勝光、忠光、祐定、清光は特に有名。他の末備前刀工同様、作域の広い作者ですが、とりわけ華やかな乱刃の名手として定評があります。
本作は典型的な片手打の末備前。俗名はありませんが、長船右京亮勝光の一振りです。
