千子派は、室町期の伊勢を代表する刀工です。
千子派は初代村正に始まり、村正の他に正重や天下三名槍の一つ、本多忠勝の愛槍「蜻蛉切」正真などが知られています。
村正は徳川家にまつわる逸話から妖刀伝説が囁かれ非常に人気の高い刀工です。
江戸時代には徳川家の祟りなどから凶刀視され、村正を持つと祟られるという迷信が広まり、村正銘が消され無銘とされたり、どちらか一方の文字を残して改ざんされたり、容易に読めないように底銘とされた作品が多い。
