江戸時代後期に水戸藩工として活躍した勝村徳勝の作品。
勝村徳勝は水戸藩士の子として文化三年に生まれ、鍛刀の技術を藩工の関内徳宗に学び、嘉永五年、水戸烈公こと徳川斉昭の命により江戸に出て、細川正義、運寿是一の門に学び、文久元年（1861年〜）に江戸小石川の水戸藩邸に移り作刀した。
新々刀上作として水戸の代表工である。
彼の作刀は尊王攘夷の機運が高揚する水戸藩士の指料として愛用され、井伊大老を桜田門外で襲撃した刀としても有名です。
