元禄時代以降に長崎や平戸で作られた極めて異風な鐔がある。
一般に南蛮風と呼ばれる、中国を経由した西洋風の龍や唐草の複雑な模様を鉄地に透彫で表したり、金や銀の布目象嵌を施したものがこれ。
この異国風の形態は後に金工作品全般に影響を与え、鐔の表現にも技術躍進をもたらしたが、南蛮鐔そのものの流行は一時的なものに終った。
